Another slow month.

Some website improvements...

The Common Ground discussion forum script has been redone. (For the technically inclined... the original was written in HtmlScript v2.99 and was a little slow, the script has been rewritten in Miva - a major upgrade to the HtmlScript language. The look has also gotten a facelift with the use of "frames". A non-framed version for frame-challenged browsers will be up shortly. Check it out and let us know what you think.

The San Diego Gardener Calendar has also been redone in Miva. Some minor cosmetic changes and overall performance improvement - The big deal here is that the calendar script is completely portable - should make creating and updating other calendars a breeze.

The San Diego Gardener Forum has a new sponsor, Evergreen Nursery. Stop by one of their nurseries and tell them you saw them in Digitalseed. - Stay tuned! - Neat things may be coming soon from these folks.

We went to the Garden Festival at the Wild Animal Park last weekend (helping staff a compost information table for the City of San Diego). Checked out the Park's Nativescapes Garden maintained by the Lake Hodges Native Plant Club. Pretty nifty - This weekend we're going to check out the "Lake Hodges Native Plant Sale".

Let's see, what else did we do this month...
Gave a compost workshop at Cuyamaca College;
Gave a gardening workshop at the annual Environmental Symposium organized by I Love A Clean San Diego;
Bought too much stuff at the Quail plant sale;
Visited several garden club meetings;
And saw a beautiful slide-show presentation by Steve Brigham from Buena Creek Gardens at the Southwest Hemerocallis Society meeting.

The Southern California Gardening Guide for the Month of November is done.

Wow, it's been a busy month. What with all the garden club meetings, plant sales and other events we had to check out (on top of the misc. birthdays and weddings), there was barely any time at all to work on this site. It's a good thing that maintenance is almost completely automated (see technical info) or the San Diego Gardener database updates would be stacking up by now.

Digitalseed's very own Master Gardener and Master Composter, Tammy Tatum, is teaching a Backyard Composting Workshop next weekend at Cuyamaca College. Register now to reserve a space, (619) 670-3994.

September Highlights...

Sept. 14 -- Iris Society Plant Sale (Great deals on iris rhizomes!)
Sept. 21 -- San Diego Hoya Group Meeting (Great fun! Good food and nice folks - We're members now)
Sept. 27 -- Orchid Fair at Quail (Nice turnout... crowded. Sorry about the $4.00 admission: we failed to point that out in the calendar entry... not our fault; nobody told us).
Sept. 27 -- EarthDay Harvest Fair (Kind of small but it's the first year... we'll see what happens next year)

New Resources...

The Southern California Gardening Guide for the Month of October is done.
Now on to November...

Completed testing on the Digitalseed Search Engine: a website search tool developed by Digitalseed. Check it out and let us know what you think.

A New Forum! Common Ground. It's a discussion forum for Southern California gardeners. Go ahead, post a question or just say hi. Think of it as a virtual garden club meeting that keeps going 24 hours a day all week long where you can drop in at any time and never miss a thing.

We've also added an email form to make it even easier for our readers to send us feedback. No email address is required to use this form but if a response is desired, you should at least include a phone number.

And finally, check out our work on the Cuyamaca College Ornamental Horticulture Program's website. Let us know what you think.

We were at the San Diego Horticultural Society meeting last week. Our friend, Vincent Lazaneo, gave a presentation on killer bees. A great plant raffle (we won twice!). Nice friendly folks. Good show. Their next meeting is on October 13. Definitely worth checking out.

New Resources...

The San Diego Specialty Nurseries list has finally been organized. Check it out and let us know what you think.

The Southern California Gardening Guide for the month of September is done. Now on to October...

A milestone... As of yesterday, Digitalseed has been up for one month!

New Stuff...
"The Composter" has a new section on Compost Bins and the San Diego Gardener Events Calendar is now available with a weekly view.

Most of the suggested corrections and additions have been completed. Thanks for all the feedback. This site keeps getting better and better. Keep it coming.

Remember to let us know if we should add anything to the Events Calendar.... Club meetings, plant sales, etc... any gardening related event.

Still not done but take a peek at the Digital Gardener and let us know what you think. Much more information is in the works so check back soon.

Also changed the look of the Events Calendar. If you know of a local (San Diego area) gardening related event that should be in the calendar, please send us the information (Contact Information). Remember, the San Diego Gardener Events Calendar is a free service so don't be shy.

Back from the Del Mar Fair... Check out the new Events Calendar. As always, we welcome comments and suggestions... Let us know what you think.

The Digital Gardener's debut has been postponed. It should be up by the end of the week. Check back soon.

Monday, June 30, 1997

We're busy at the Del Mar Fair for the next couple of days (sigh... no rest for volunteers). If you're around, stop by the Solana Recyclers Master Composters exhibit or the Master Gardener booth and ask for Tammy Tatum. We'll be back next Monday.

Wednesday, June 25, 1997
